A little update on the backyard birdfeeder. After two weeks of no activity, a couple of smart birds finally figured out that there was free food to be had. It took me a little research on Saturday morning, but I identified them as black-capped chickadees. What really gave them away was their song, which I was able to compare to some recorded sounds online. I was pretty pleased both that I had birds at the feeder and that I knew what they were. Unfortunately, they didn't return on Sunday but they say chickadees can remember thousands of hiding spots for their food, so I'm hopeful that they'll be back.
